Abiding Presence Lutheran Church will once again partner with the Texas Ramp Project to transform someone’s world. In just a few hours, this volunteer team will build a wheelchair ramp that gives a homebound individual the precious gift of freedom and independence.

More Than Just a Ramp – It’s a Gateway to Life
For someone who uses a wheelchair or has difficulty with stairs, even a few steps can become an insurmountable barrier. What many take for granted – walking out our front door – becomes impossible. The result? People become prisoners in their own homes, unable to attend medical appointments, visit family, or simply enjoy the outdoors.
The Impact is Immediate and Life-Changing
- Increased access to medical care and dialysis treatments
- Reconnection with friends and community
- Greater choice in daily activities
- Enhanced safety for both residents and emergency responders
- The ability to remain in their own homes rather than moving to assisted living facilities
About the Texas Ramp Project
The Texas Ramp Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides wheelchair ramps to low-income older adults and people with disabilities identified by local healthcare providers. Since 2006, this remarkable organization has expanded across 145 Texas counties, and as of April 2025, Texas Ramp Project volunteers have built over 29,501 ramps. These ramps, if laid end-to-end, would extend nearly 151 miles. What makes this project extraordinary is its volunteer-driven model. For less than $1,000 in materials and 4-5 hours of donated labor on a Saturday morning, the life of a homebound person can be completely transformed and changed forever.
No Experience Necessary – Just a Heart for Service
Worried you don’t have construction skills? Don’t be! You don’t need to be a carpenter or construction expert to help! We welcome volunteers of all skill levels. Experienced team leaders will provide guidance and all necessary tools.
Whether you’re wielding a hammer for the first time or have years of construction experience, there’s a role for you. The project thrives on the diverse skills and enthusiasm that volunteers bring to each build.
