Youth ministry at Abiding Presence focuses on building compassionate young people through learning, service, and fellowship and provides a foundation for healthy relationships and a lifelong engagement with church community.
6th – 8th grade students prepare to affirm their Baptism through our Confirmation program. Students meet each week on Wednesday evenings learning about their place in God’s story. Discussions include the foundations of our Lutheran faith – the Lord ’s Prayer, the ten commandments, the creeds, and the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
Weekend retreats at Lutheran Camp Chrysalis provide opportunities for the youth to build their relationships with God and with each other. A week long summer camp experience helps them further understand and live out the meaning of faith and build community. Middle school youth also attend the Synod Junior High Youth Gathering annually.
Students affirm their Baptism in spring of their 8th grade year through the Rite of Confirmation.
9th – 12th grade students meet each week during the school year for “BUZZ Session” on Wednesday evenings. In this time together they discuss a special current event, study topic, or social challenge. The group sometimes goes out for dinner together and often shares pizza in the youth room.
Our senior high students travel together for a summer mission trip each year to serve in various places of need. They attend the Synod High School Youth Gathering each December, and they have participated in the National Youth Gathering.
Both middle and high school youth participate in service and fellowship activities throughout the year ranging from Christmas toy drives to church basketball leagues to cooking and serving the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.
