Families with children from infants to fifth graders are encouraged to be involved in the many opportunities at Abiding Presence to learn and grow together guiding the youngest among us toward a heart for God.
Sunday school learning begins at age 3. Preschoolers learn about God’s world through Bible stories, nature exploration, art and play. Our wonderful teachers are adult volunteers, church members who share their lives with the children each week helping them experience God’s love and presence through smiles and hugs. For many children their Sunday school teacher is one of their first significant relationships outside of their family unit. Children can learn at an early age that God loves them and desires a relationship with them. (Sunday school meets during the regular school year and takes a summer break June to August.)
Children love to sing. Learning simple songs about God’s love provides children with a beginning vocabulary to share God’s love with others. Singing as a group provides an opportunity to make new friends and start forming relationships with their bigger church family. Cherubs meet weekly through the school year.
3rd – 5th Grade Youth Fellowship Group
Come join in the fun activities, times of study, and fellowship for all youth currently in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade. From bowling, ice skating and game days to Bible study, retreats, and times of service work, this group uses the gifts God has given to grow in faith. Check the calendar – this group usually meets on the 3rd Sunday afternoon of each month. Bring a friend.
First Communion Instruction
When we say “All are Welcome,” it means everyone is welcome at the Lord’s table, even children. Children who are ready to receive communion for the first time should attend, with their parents, a first communion instruction class. These classes are offered every other month.
Vacation Bible School
Each summer children ages 4 – 5th grade enjoy a fun filled week of learning, singing, and play. Each year a different theme provides a unique experience.
Parents – new and expecting – are invited to Baptism Class in preparation for your child’s baptism. Come learn how through water and the Word we are marked as God’s children forever. This class also helps parents grow in their faith and deepen their understanding of the promises they make – and which were made for them – in Holy Baptism. This class is offered every other month and should be attended by parents prior to scheduling a baptism.
Children – newborn through age 4 – are welcome in our nursery area during worship and special congregational events. Trained caregivers offer a loving and safe environment for our little ones to experience God’s love.
